Welcome
to the official web site for Adam-Michael
James' novel, Undo the Deed. This is the place to
discover everything and anything about his book, including what
inspired it, how it came into being, and, of course, how to buy it!
AMJ On-Line is the main
site for Adam-Michael James himself - virtually everything there is to
know about the DJ/author/singer-songwriter, with lots of images, audio,
and video from his varied career! Also, it's the place
to find out more about his second book, Extra Extra!: Memoirs from a Piece of
Human Furniture, on which a CD maxi-single and DVD music video
is based! And, his next project is right up the literary alley -
co-writing a musical on quintessential Canadian author Lucy Maud
Montgomery! Be sure to pop
over to AMJ On-Line and get in the know!
Home will always take you
back to this page - hey, there's a lot to offer here, and you just
might get lost!
Undo the Deed has been
the subject of many Reviews
and Interviews, all of which
are available here. You can also read a Sample from Chapter 1 that kicks off
the whole story!
The
Extras section features a
television interview with AMJ, exclusive
unwritten alternate storylines that never made
it into the book (including a scandalous plot twist that scared off
publishers!), a comprehensive chart that puts Undo the Deed
side-by-side with oft-compared-to Back to the Future, and a
dream cast for a movie version of AMJ's book. Why should DVDs have all
the
fun? Also explore original handwritten notes, rejection letters, other
deleted
scenes, timelines, and AMJ's lyrics to the "title track" of Undo
the
Deed. Keep checking back for more!
The Forum is available to
discuss Undo the Deed, but,
most importantly, it's available for anyone suffering from or
recovering from abuse to find friendship and help. Drop in and give 'em
something to talk about!
The Links section was
specifically designed to guide survivors
and sufferers of any kind of abuse to any help they might need. The
Internet is a wonderful tool in this regard; if you or someone you know
needs help, click on Links to get started finding it.

There
are those who subscribe to the belief that everything that happens, no
matter
how trivial, is supposed to happen. Seventeen-year-old Amanda Grant,
however,
is more concerned with how to get through another day than she is with
matters
of destiny. She is trapped in a world of mind games, manipulation,
alcohol,
and violence. Amanda is an abused child.
Her
father, Matthew, beats
her
on a regular basis. She has no connection with her little brother. Her
mother has gone from being a victim herself to being an emotional
victimizer, adding
to the physical abuse she endures. Her only comforts are solitary
moments
on the beach at night, her high school Drama class, her favorite band,
The
Bangles, and her boyfriend, Brian. But even these aren't enough to
quell
the gut-wrenching depression and desperation she experiences every day;
she
is approaching the end of her rope as fast as she is approaching her
high
school graduation.
It
is 1987. One night,
Matthew
nearly kills his daughter, who narrowly escapes, making a mad dash for
her
car. Drowning in tears and hopelessness, she loses control of her car
and
hits a tree. She is rescued and the injuries sustained from the
accident
and from the beating will heal. But it is only now that Amanda begins
to
think about destiny: she has unexplainably travelled from 1987 to 1965.
Amanda
now knows she must
have
shunted through time for a reason. Most obvious to her is the fact that
here,
in 1965, Matthew himself is a teenager being beaten by his
father—Amanda's grandfather. Figuring it must be her purpose to fix
Matthew—and therefore, her "future"—Amanda insinuates herself into
Matthew's life to lend support and a helping hand. She is surprised by
how normal the teenage version of
her father is compared to the violent adult version she grew up with.
But she cannot be prepared
for
the surprises destiny has for her as her presence affects everyone she
comes into contact with. And when Matthew unwittingly falls in love
with his future
daughter, Amanda is in for the biggest surprise of all...
